Owned by a Belgian designer, Valérie Barkowski, this chic, 17th century townhouse, Riad Dar Kawa is situated in an authentic part of the medina. Located in the neighbourhood of Kâat Benahid, Dar Kawa is within easy walk from the Maison de la Photographie, the Marrakech Museum and the souks.
Valérie Barkowski fell in love with Morocco nearly 20 years ago and bought Dar Kawa as her home. The riad was refurbished staying as close as possible to the original architecture, using authentic materials. It embodies slow life and the possibility to indulge your senses. The owner, creative director and designer, has worked with local artisans creating textiles and objects, always respectul of tradition and craftsmanship. Her creations are also available online.
The riad offers four beautiful bedrooms: a double bedroom, 3 suites with 2 rooms (for up to 5 people). Every little corner of the riad has been carefully decorated with selected objects mixing vintage, antics and modern, fabrics and art. Spend time in the patio under the orange trees in summer and by the fireplace in winter. Expect attention to detail, pretty table settings and delicious local food using local ingredients prepared by Saïda, the cook.
