COULD YOU EXPLAIN YOUR BUSINESS IN A FEW WORDS?
I am a calligrapher for all sorts of events and I create watercolour designs too. To combine those two skills I have opened an e-shop to offer a range of wedding and birth stationery as well as some decoration.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS AND WHY THIS IDEA?
I’ve worked in the art market for six years and I’ve enjoyed the fact that antic dealers are their own bosses and work with beautiful pieces of art.
When I decided to become my own boss, I hesitated among several ideas. One day, my good friends Astrid and Oscar asked me for my address in Paris for their wedding invitations and I offered them to write their envelopes : a revelation! I love creative work as it is a way for me to achieve some kind of handmade “perfection”.
WITHIN YOUR DESIGNS, WHICH IS YOUR COUP DE COEUR?
It is difficult to choose because all collections are a part of my creative world but I have a crush on the little animals portraits.
WHERE DO YOU TAKE YOUR INSPIRATIONS FROM AND HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR COLLECTIONS?
Nature is my first inspiration. And then antics and ornaments – mostly because of my studies and my previous jobs in the Art market.
I always have an eye on small details; in the architecture that is around us or something as simple as trees during my weekend walks. From that, an idea grows up. I start with creating a first watercolour and some associated calligraphy, then I digitise it and work on the page layout to finally create a satisfying set.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF?
Probably founding my own company during my first child pregnancy without any fear or doubt. And to have done all of this by myself. This is thanks to my very supportive husband and a bunch of amazing and helping friends.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING IN THE WORLD?
That’s a very hard question as there are so many things that I love so much: Riding a horse, swimming and surfing in the ocean, cooking than eating it with Martin, drinking burgundy wine, dancing all the night with some friends, finding treasures on a flea market, looking at my baby smiling and lucky me, my job!
WHAT ARE YOUR 3 FAVOURITE SPOTS IN PARIS?
For casual meetings I often go to Colorova in my arrondissement. They have very good pastries and a very kind service in a cosy atmosphere.
To find inspiration I love Deyrolles, the famous taxidermist, and the Art Déco library.
And when I miss my old professional life, I am going to my friends’ galleries like the Marcilhac, the Chenel, the Barrère or Oscar Graf. Visiting their galleries is like having a small museum just for you!
WHAT IS THE BEST TRIP YOU HAVE DONE AND WHY?
When I was 7 years old, my mother and I travelled to Rajasthan (poor Dad was stuck at work!). Rajastahn was not my dreamiest destination as a child but it ended up being the most stirring trip I have ever been on.
I remember one day, during a nap time in a very charming decrepit palace, I was on my room balcony sending some drawings to little girls in the street below. My mum allowed me to join them to play with them. They started teaching me Indian dances. I have very strong memories of thiat afternoon. None of us could speak the other’s language but somehow we could communicate perfectly. I will never forget this happy afternoon with my Indian friends.
WHICH IS YOUR FAVOURITE DECO / BRAND / E-SHOP / CONCEPT STORE OF THE MOMENT?
I am crazy about ceramics and follow a lot of french craftsmen. At the moment I am dreaming about the amazing creations of Alix D. Reynis in white porcelain, especially the Empire collection.
And as I am from Lyon, there is this very old brand named Jars in the north of Drôme area. They create magnificent colours!
ANY INTERESTING PROJECT THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
We have launched our eshop last October. I am currently working on developing new products to be customized and purchased directly on our eshop.
Moreover, I am working on a brand new project which will launch in 2017. I will hold Calligraphy Workshops in Paris which will be about learning the basics of calligraphy. Perfect if you are a bride-to-be and want to write your own wedding invitations envelopes or if you are a creative person who wants to learn something new!
WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO?
In french, it is “La bienveillance est la véritable élégance” which means something like: Kindness is the real elegance..
